The 16 Days Campaign Against Gender Violence: Get Involved! Take A Brave Act Now!


 

1. Volunteer for Women Crisis Centre (WCC)

Hotlines, operated by WCC, provide much-needed support to victims of violence against women and their friends and family. WCC serves victims of violence against women, including sexual violence. Volunteers and staff at these organizations are trained on issues surrounding violence and can provide support and information about individual or group counseling, medical attention, reporting a crime to law enforcement as well as many other services. If you’re willing to give those affected a safe place to turn when they cannot find their voice, please contact us now. We could provide you information about recommended WCC at your local areas.

 

2. Organize a Cultural Activity during the 16 Days Campaign

At a minimum, please give your best time to participate in any event during the Campaign. We encourage you also to host your own cultural activity by injecting awareness to topic even in a slightly lighter way for the Campaign. By hosting an event, you’re going above and beyond by motivating friends, colleagues, and your community to help women survivors of violence rebuild their lives.

As an example, you could “Host a Cultural Party” or “Host a House Party”. This is a way to gather a small group of people (friends, family, neighboor, etc) where members have the opportunity to socialize, enjoy cultural activities (short-story reading, poetry recitation, a theatrical performance, dance, music performance, etc) and increase their knowledge of violence against women which pressing women’s rights issues of the day, how women’s organization or activists working in the issues, and how you and your community can in turn support the movement. As a social welfare group, with your social compassion, you could also make your event as a fundraising party!

If you would like to share our work with you and your friends and enjoy your meeting with friends, consider hosting a party! Send an email to us by writing “Host a Cultural Party” or “Host a House Party” in the subject line. We will support you to host your party.

We are pleased to help you to organize your brave acts. We could help you connect with other organizations, provide resources, films, facilitate speakers and moderator, support you to approach medias, etc. We will support you also to create and share a summary of your campaign activities by posting it on the web, sending it to other organizations, or publishing it in a newsletter. Start planning and contact us now!

 

3. Educate the Public

Talking about violence against women including girls is a powerful way to help reduce the stigma, teach young adults ways to reduce their risks, and help survivors learn where to ask for help.

Spread the word could means that you are willing to help educate the public about violence against women by sharing your experience. Or you could create a Buzz Online by writing blog articles, personal reflections for websites and online information sources.

Some WCCs are looking for for victims and friends or family members of victims who are willing to share their experience. It might be very helpful if you meet feminist organizations that work intensively in this issue.

For this, perhaps you have some concerns or questions about any risk or threats that you might face. Please do not hesitate to contact us for advice.

 

4. Campus Program

That’s right, some of our most passionate, most dedicated, and most informed supporters are roaming the halls of college campuses across the country. We’re talking about you, college students! And we are excited to come to your Campus to support you to organize your Campaign.

We know that you have resources to organize creative-crazy-even brave acts ever at your campuses. We hope we could help you channel your energies and work together with other like-minded students to bring the movement to your campus like never before!

Some activities that you could organize at your Campus with our help!

·         Book Discussion
·         Cultural Event (short-story reading, poetry recitation, a theatrical performance, dance, music performance, etc)
·         A Film Screening and Conversation
·         Music performance and Discussion
If you are interested, please contact us, ASAP. We could help you connect with other organizations, provide resources, facilitate speakers and moderator, support you to approach medias, etc. We will support you also to create and share a summary of your campaign activities by posting it on the web, sending it to other organizations, or publishing it in a newsletter. 
 

5. Help Fundraising

As non-profit organizations, many women’s organizations and WCC are financially supported mostly by donations from individuals as well as donors agency. We rely heavily on volunteers to raise donations and the funds necessary to operate the hotline, educate the public, and doing advocacy. If you have a passion for this work, translate it into raising donation to support WCC. Fundraising is a wonderful way to connect to your community, while taking a powerful stand on important issues, expressing your values, and mobilizing critical support.

There are many ideas for fundraising, from organizing bazaar, garage sale, donating used goods (used clothing and household items which are still in good condition), gather friends for a potluck dinner and then donate the amount you would have spent on dinner out, sell gift items, handicrafts, home decor accessories, etc. If you  have this passion, please contact us. We will support you with guidance and materials so you can make a difference in the world!
